Narrowing The Turnover Margin

Tampa Bay Storm News Release
TAMPA BAY - The Tampa Bay Storm hit the field today and the first thing on the agenda was working on turnovers; forcing and recovering turnovers to be exact. Coming into this season, the staff made it a priority to improve the team's turnover margin - a statistic that shows whether a team is turning the ball over more than it is recovering a turnover by the opposition.
The drill consisted of offensive and defensive players punching a football out of each others' grasp. Once the ball hit the ground, the players would scramble looking to recover and protect the ball. It was a drill that will surely benefit the Storm as it will create more scoring opportunities.
"From the defensive side of the ball, we look to force turnovers," said first-year Storm defensive lineman Rodney Beamon. "If we force the turnover, and recover the football, we've done our job to help put up more points."
For the Storm this was a necessary drill as the team ranked fifteenth last season in turnover margin with a (-10) mark. A drill like this will surely help improve this mark.
Coaches' Perspective: Addressing the team about the importance of rest and recovery Storm head coach said, "Get treatment if you need it; do what you need to do to keep your body fresh. In order to succeed, you guys have to take care of your bodies."
Quote of the Day: On entering training camp and being with the Tampa Bay Storm, first-year Storm quarterback Shane Boyd said, "It's great to be here. We work hard for the opportunity the Storm has given us. With management like this, you know things will be done the right way."
Player Spotlight: Storm defensive back Jean Fanor enters his first year in the Arena Football League with the Tampa Bay Storm. Fanor played in 39 games for the Bethune-Cookman Wildcats and was a training camp invite with the Kansas City Chiefs in 2012. Fanor comes to the Storm to help improve the defensive backfield. Today, he was all over the field forcing pass breakups and preventing the receivers from making plays.
