NAHL Midget Showcase Schedule Announced
September 8, 2006 - North American Hockey League (NAHL) News Release
MINNEAPOLIS - The North American Hockey League announced today the schedule for the second annual NAHL Midget Showcase, which will be held in conjunction with the NAHL Showcase Tournament Sept. 14-17 at the Schwan Super Rink in Blaine, Minn.
Six teams - the Chicago Young Americans, Texas Attack, Little Caesar's, Capital Center Pride, Omaha Energy and So Cal Titans - will compete in the event, with each playing four games over the four days.
"The inception of the NAHL Midget Showcase has been well received throughout the hockey community," said NAHL deputy commissioner Mark Frankenfeld. "The ability to piggyback an event like this on top of our Showcase Tournament, which continues to garner more and more prestige year after year, is win-win for both the players and the attending scouts."
Still in its infancy, the NAHL's coaches and Board of Governors plan to grow the Midget Showcase into a bigger and more widely-recognized event in the future.
"It's a great way to get these midget players exposed to our league while sharing in the exposure of the hundreds of college and pro scouts who attend our tournament every year," Frankenfeld added.
See the attached .pdf for the complete NAHL Midget Showcase Tournament schedule.
The NAHL Showcase Tournament will be played Sept. 13-16 at the Super Rink. The kickoff to the league's regular season, the fourth annual Showcase will feature all 17 NAHL teams and an NAHL At-Large Team. Each team will play four games over the four days with a champion crowned at the conclusion of Saturday's contests.
Last season, more than 200 college and pro scouts attended the showcase. In addition, the event eclipsed the 5,000-mark in total attendance.
