NAHL announces Robertson Cup Championship Tournament schedule

Frisco, Texas -- With the field now set for the North American Hockey League's 30th Robertson Cup Championship Tournament, the NAHL has announced the schedule for the event, to be played on Wednesday, May 10 through Saturday, May 13, 2006 at the Ice Zone in Boardman, Ohio, home of the host team, the Mahoning Valley Phantoms.

Prior to the start of the Tournament, the Phantoms will host the NAHL Banquet of Champions. Information on the Banquet can be found here.

The four teams that qualified through the NAHL playoffs - the North Division's Cleveland Barons, the South Division's Texas Tornado, the Central Division's Southern Minnesota Express and the West Division's Bozeman Icedogs -- will play on the first day of this double elimination tournament, in which two losses will mean a team has no chance of winning the Robertson Cup. The Phantoms join the field on the second day.

The schedule is as follows:

Wednesday, May 10

Game 1 - Cleveland vs. Bozeman, 2:00 pm Game 2 - Southern Minnesota vs. Texas, 7:30 pm

Thursday, May 11

Game 3 - Loser of Game 1 vs. Loser of Game 2, 2:00 pm Game 4 - Lower Seed* of Winner of Game 1 and Winner of Game 2 vs. Mahoning Valley, 7:30 pm (Note - Loser of Game 3 is eliminated from the Robertson Cup Tournament)

Friday, May 12

Game 5 - Winner of Game 3 vs. Winner of Game 4, (Time TBD) Game 6 - Higher Seed* of Winner of Game 1 and Winner of Game 2 vs. Loser of Game 4. (Time TBD)

Game times are 2 pm and 7:30 pm; whichever game has the Phantoms as one of the competing clubs shall be the 7:30 pm game.

Saturday, May 13

Game 7 - Third Place Game - Loser of Game 5 vs. Loser of Game 6, 2:00 pm Game 8 - Robertson Cup Championship Game - Winner of Game 5 vs. Winner of Game 6, 7:30 pm

*Seeding is based on the final regular season standings of the competing teams.

The tournament will be preceded by the Banquet of Champions on Tuesday night.
