NAHL Announces Divisional Stars of the Week

September 16, 2015 - North American Hockey League (NAHL) News Release


FRISCO, TEXAS - The North American Hockey League (NAHL) today announced the Divisional Stars of the Week presented by Easton Hockey for the week ending September 13, 2015. The Easton Hockey Divisional Stars of the Week is a weekly feature during the 2015-16 regular season that honors the top performing players in each of the four NAHL divisions. Only players that are nominated by their respective teams are considered for the Divisional Players of the Week award.

Central Division Star of the Week: No Games Played

East Division Star of the Week: No Games Played

Midwest Division Star of the Week: Logan Coomes, forward, Fairbanks Ice Dogs

Fairbanks Ice Dogs forward Logan Coomes, 18, had quite the NAHL debut this past weekend. The native of Northville, Michigan helped Fairbanks post a weekend sweep of the Kenai River Brown Bears by contributing seven points in the two victories. On Friday, Coomes (5'11/185) had a goal and two assists and was +3 in a 6-2 win. On Saturday, the Quinnipiac recruit had a goal and three assists and was a +5 in a 7-3 win. He also had 11 shots on goal during the weekend. "Logan had a strong first weekend as an Ice Dog. He has fit in very nicely since his arrival and we look forward to see his continued development," said Fairbanks head coach Trevor Stewart.

South Division Star of the Week: Joey Molinaro, forward, Amarillo Bulls

Even though he played in just one game during the weekend, Amarillo Bulls forward Joey Molinaro made his presence felt. The 19-year-old native of Mississauga, Ontario had a four-point game in a 6-3 home win over the Odessa Jackalopes on Saturday night. Molinaro (6'1/177) scored two goals and added two assists and was a +1 in the win. He scored Amarillo's second goal, which came early in the 1st period and also scored the 5th goal on the power play early in the 3rd period. "Joey made quite an impression on his teammates, our staff and our home fans with such a quick start. Joey showed that he is a dual threat as a player that can find the back of the net, as well as create time and space to set up his teammates. Our staff believes that he is a Division One caliber player that many schools would be happy to have," said Bulls head coach Matt Nicholson.
