Mustangs' Rodgers Named Playmaker of the Week

Milwaukee - The Milwaukee Mustangs are pleased to announce that defensive back Kelvin Rodgers has been named the Arena Football League's Week 15 Playmaker of the Week. Named the Week 10 Riddell Defensive Player of the Week earlier this season, Rodgers was once again at the top of his game when he stepped onto the turf against the Jacksonville Sharks last Saturday night.
Rodgers (6'1, 182, Minnesota State) led the team in tackles during the contest with 7.5, but also intercepted Sharks quarterback Aaron Garcia, one of the AFL's top passers, in the end zone with only seconds left until halftime. The Mustangs' shutdown defensive back also went on to record three pass breakups before turning his attention to special teams, where he totaled 145 kick return yards in the game, including a 57-yard touchdown in the third quarter that tied the game at 34-34.
Rodgers has emerged as the Mustangs' playmaker in the secondary this season, leading active team members in tackles (61.5), pass breakups (11), and interceptions (6). After taking over kick return duties in the second half of the game against Orlando in Week 12, Rodgers also leads the team with a 19.3 yard average per return.
The Milwaukee Mustangs (4-9) head to Pittsburgh this week in their quest to crush the American-East Division-leading Power (7-6) at 6:30 p.m. (CST) in CONSOL Energy Center. The game will be broadcasted live on 540 ESPN Milwaukee radio and espnmilwaukee.com and can be viewed online on NiFTyTV.
The Mustangs will return home on July 2nd when they do battle against another divisional foe, the Cleveland Gladiators (7-6), at 7 p.m. in the Bradley Center.
