Mustangs Rally to Beat Power

June 16, 2012 - Arena Football League (AFL)
Pittsburgh Power News Release

The Power lost a heartbreaker on Saturday night as the Milwaukee Mustangs pulled ahead late to steal the victory, 63-62.

After having a lead until late in the fourth quarter, Milwaukee strung together a few scores that allowed them to convert a two-point conversion with three ticks left on the clock to seal the victory.

After Gino Guidugli opened up the scoring with an 18-yard touchdown pass to Andrae Thurman, Bryan Randall helped the Power regain the lead with touchdowns to P.J. Berry and Oderick Turner.

From there, Randall and Guidugli traded touchdowns throughout the first half until the Mustangs led 27-26 with a Dwayne Eley, Jr. touchdown run.

That's when the luck began to change for the Power. Neil Purvis forced a Guidugli fumble that bounced of the back wall giving the Power a safety and the lead. Milwaukee attempted an onside kick on the ensuing play which was returned for a score by Randy Hymes giving the Power a 34-27 lead.

On Milwaukee's next possession, Guidugli was intercepted by John Green setting up a Geoff Boyer field goal to give the Power a 37-27 lead at halftime.

Milwaukee started to climb back into the game late in the third quarter when the Mustangs defense was able to force a turnover and downs followed by Guidugli's second touchdown run to cut the deficit to three.

After the Power increased the lead back to 13 with a Turner touchdown and a Boyer field goal, Guidugli and Thurman hooked up for their second and third time on the night to go up 55-54 late in the fourth.

With 23 seconds left, Randall crossed the plane to put the Power up 60-55 and to ensure a one-score lead, Boyer kicked the first drop kick in the Arena Football League since 1997 to go up 62-55.

Milwaukee marched the field with under a minute to go and with three seconds left, Guidugli threw his fifth touchdown on the night.

Instead of tying up the game with an extra point, Milwaukee went for two and was successful giving them a 63-62.

The clock ran out on the ensuing kickoff giving the Mustangs the win, improving them to 5-8 on the season. With the loss, the Power fall to 3-10.

The Power take to Philadelphia next week to take on the Division Champion Soul. Kickoff from the City of Brotherly Love is Sunday night at 6:05 p.m.
