Chicago Slaughter (3-3) at

MUSKEGON THUNDER (4-1)

L.C. Walker Arena, Muskegon, Mich.

Series Record: Chicago Leads All-Time, 2-0

Last Meeting: Chicago 58-34 (@Musk. 6/9/07)

2008 Meetings: First Meeting (@Chi. 5/31/08)

Coaches: Muskegon, Shane Fairfield, 2nd year (8-10); Chicago, Steve McMichael, 2nd year (13-7)

Outlook: The Thunder have won four straight after a 34-33 loss versus Marion to start the season; The Slaughter are following a pattern with a L,W,L,W,L,W trend thus far; Two players with common positions but very different styles highlight this matchup as Muskegon's Preston Garris (5-9,190) and Chicago's J.R. Taylor (6-3,250) are both listed as running backs but the similarities end there. Garris is a rookie (Grand Valley State/Mona Shores HS) that is used primarily as a slot and motion receiver with 11 total touchdowns (9 receiving, 2 rushing) including at least one in each game while Taylor (Eastern Illinois) is a power runner that excels on hand offs in enemy territory scoring 12 of 13 TDs via the ground; Muskegon ranks 7th in the 15-team CIFL in offense (44.0 ppg) and 4th defensively (35.0 ppg) while Chicago's potent offense ranks 2nd (51.5 ppg) and has a defense that ranks 9th (42.0 ppg); The Thunder will hit the halfway point in their 12-game schedule having played five of their first six games at home; Muskegon hopes to keep pace with Eastern Division leader Kalamazoo (6-1) and solidify their position as at least an at-large playoff qualifier in the Great Lakes Division while Chicago continues their dogfight with neighboring Rock River (2-3) for Western supremacy while all four keep a watchful eye on Fort Wayne in the rear view mirror (2-3) in the race toward the second season.
