Newark Bears News Release
NEWARK, NJ, September 20-Glenn Murray hit a game-tying solo home run in the 7th inning and a game-winning grand slam in the 8th inning to lead the Nashua Pride past the Newark Bears, 10-5, in the first game of a doubleheader Tuesday evening at Bears and Eagles Riverfront Stadium.
With Newark Leading 5-4 in the 7th and final inning, Murray led off with a home run to center field off of Newark closer Jeff Farnsworth. An inning later, Murray stepped up with the bases loaded and crushed a grand slam over the wall in left-center field off of Farnsworth to give the Pride a 9-5 lead. Luis Rodriguez would later add an RBI double to drive in the game's final run.
Farnsworth (2-7) blew the save and absorbed the loss for Newark. He allowed six runs and six hits in two innings of work. Not to be lost in the losing effort was the excellent outing from Bears reliever Carlos DeLos Santos who tossed 2.1 scoreless and hitless frames.
Newark was paced offensively by Norm Hutchins who was 3-3 with his 16th home run, a walk, a stolen base, 3 RBI and 3 runs scored. Tom McGee went 2-4 with a double and 2 runs scored.
Murray finished the night 3-5 with his 29th and 30th home runs, 6 RBI and 2 runs scored. His teammate Joe Kilburg also had three hits for Nashua.
