Batavia Muckdogs News Release
Today's Game- Batavia wraps up the two game series against the West Virginia. The Muckdogs have dropped four of their last five games. After this game, the 'Dogs go on the road for seven games in six days, with a twin-bill tomorrow in Auburn.
That was last night- Last night, the Muckdogs were held to season-low numbers on offense, being shutout with just two hits to their name. Sean Reynolds had a double and Igor Baez knocked a single for the other hit. Batavia also struck out a season-high 17 times.
Stars Shining in Batavia- The Muckdogs are sending three players to the 2018 NYPL All-Star Game at State College. Jerar Encarnacion, Sean Reynolds and Manuel Rodriguez will represent the Muckdogs. Batavia's coaching staff will also be responsible for managing the North roster.
Rodriguez Rocks The 'Pen- LHP Manuel Rodriguez has been lights out for Batavia this season from the bullpen. He has not given up an earned run this season since June 19th. That stretch has lasted 30.2 innings for Rodriguez. Six of his last seven outings have seen him also strike out at least four batters, including a season-high seven his last time out.
Two-out trouble- The Muckdogs have had issues getting out of innings once they've reorded two outs. Batavia has given up a .270 average with RISP and two outs. Of Batavia's 266 runs against, 107 of them have crossed the plate with RISP and two outs.
Donadio digging in- Michael Donadio has now hits in 21 of his last 28 games. He's tallied 31 hits, three home runs and has crossed the plate nine times in that span. He is tied for second on the team with four home runs. He left St. John's with the second most all-time hits with 268.
Close Calls- Batavia has played a total of 55 games this season, 35 of which have been decided by two runs or less. Batvia has played the most one-run games of any team this season, and the Muckdogs are 17-18 in games decided by two or less. Batavia has the third-best reord in one-run games, and the worst record in two-run games at 2-8.
Recent Roster Action- On August 16th, OF Jerar Encarnacion was promoted to Greensboro, and OF Davis Bradshaw was promoted to Batavia from the GCL Marlins.
Marlins Update- After the benches cleared in the bottom of the first in Suntrust Park, Dansby Swanson brought three runs in for the Braves, two from a two-run homer, to push them past the Marlins 5-2.
