Muckdogs Game Notes
July 20, 2018 - New York-Penn League (NYPL)
Batavia Muckdogs News Release
Today's Game- Batavia returns home to Dwyer Stadium for the first of a six-game homestand. Batavia hosts the division-leading Mahoning Valley Scrappers for three games. After the league off day, the Staten Island Yankees come to town for three games.
That was last night- The Muckdogs set plenty of new season highs on offense last night. Batavia put up a season-best 13 runs on a season-high 17 hits as well. JD Osborne had a season-high four RBIs and the second of back-to-back homers with Sean Reynolds. The Muckdogs scored in every inning except the fifth, eighth and ninth.
Donadio digging in- Michael Donadio has now hits in eight of his last ten games. He's tallied ten hits, and has crossed the plate five times in that span. He is tied for second on the team with two home runs. He left St. John's with the second most all-time hits with 268.
Reynolds Raking- Sean Reynolds has been able to find the power in his bat this season. He currently is second in the league in home runs, RBI's leads the league in runs scored. He is also the league leader in walks with 21.
Jammed Up July- Batavia's offense has slowed up significantly in the month of July. They have opened up the first half of the month with a 9-9 record, and have scored only 4.1 runs per game. That has taken a steep decline from the 5.2 runs per game that the Muckdogs were putting up in June.
Flipping the script- To start off the season, Batavia had settled themselves within the top five in the NYPL in batting average and runs, but have since slipped from that peak. Meanwhile, the opposite has happened for the pitching staff. The Muckdogs arms have now settled with the fifth best ERA in the league after starting off in the bottom end of the league.
Beginning from behind- The Muckdogs have had trouble with giving up early leads in ballgames. Batavia has trailed after the fifth inning on 16 different occasions so far this season, and have gone 4-12 in those contests.
Recent Roster Action- On July 18th, Bubba Hollins and Gunnar Schubert were promoted to Greensboro, and SS Chris Torres was recalled from the GCL Marlins
Marlins Update- The Marlins are on the last day of the All-Star break.
