Muckdogs Game Notes

July 11, 2018 - New York-Penn League (NYPL)
Batavia Muckdogs News Release

Today's Game- The Muckdogs open up a three game series against the Connecticut Tigers, NYPL affiliate of the Detroit Tigers. This starts the only meeting of the season between the two teams.

That was yesterday- Prior to the league off day, Batavia was shut out for the first time this season by the State College Spikes. Batavia had back-to-back bases loaded/no outs opportunities that did not yield runs. The Muckdogs tied their season low in hits with five. However, they did hold an opponent two three runs or less for the seventh time of the season.

Bringing back big bats- Both JD Osborne and Jerar Encarnacion return to the lineup for Batavia in today's matchup. Encarnacion had the league's top average before going down, and Osborne had hits in eight of his last ten before leaving the lineup.

Runs, Runs, Runs- Batavia has some of the top scorers in the league, with Sean Reynolds sitting in first place with 19 runs scored, Jerar Encarnacion with 15 in fifth, and Demetrius Sims in sixth with 13. The Muckdogs have three of the top six run scorers in the league, and sit in fourth in total runs scored with 117 total runs this season.

Missing Encarnacion- The Muckdogs' offense has been missing Jerar Encarnacion, who has been on a tear to start off the season. He was on an 11 game hit streak before going down with injury. The Muckdogs have crossed the six run threshold only three times in the 12 games that Encarnacion has missed. Batavia is 5-7 since Encarnacion left the lineup.

Beginning from behind- The Muckdogs have had trouble with giving up early leads in ballgames. Batavia has trailed after the fifth inning on 14 different occasions so far this season, and have gone 4-10 in those contests.

Recent Roster Action- On July 9th, LHP Karl Craigie was optioned to the GCL, and RHP Eli Villalobos was assigned to the Batavia Muckdogs.

Marlins Update- Former Marlin Christian Yelich torched Miami for three hits and four RBIs to power the Brewers past the Marlins 8-4 on Tuesday night. Former Muckdog Brian Anderson went 2-5 with an RBI in the loss.
