Mowins and Dorrance Named to PAX Broadcast Team

ATLANTA (Tuesday, April 9, 2002) - The Women's United Soccer Association announced today that Beth Mowins and Anson Dorrance will serve as the PAX TV national broadcast team for the 2002 WUSA season. Mowins and Dorrance will call 21 WUSA games on Saturday afternoons from 4-6 p.m. (ET), including both playoff games and Founders Cup II.

Mowins enters her first season as lead play-by-play announcer for the WUSA national television package. A sports broadcasting veteran with more than 10 years of experience, Mowins called Atlanta Beat regional games on FOX Sports Net during the 2001 WUSA season. In addition, she was the sideline reporter for Founders Cup I, the inaugural WUSA championship game. The Lafayette College graduate is known for her reporting on FOX, TNT, CBS, and ESPN and has called numerous sporting events including the NCAA Women's College Cup, NCAA men's basketball tournament, WNBA, ACC basketball, NCAA Women's College World Series, USA Softball, USA women's hockey and most recently the NCAA women's college basketball tournament. Mowins holds a master's degree from Syracuse University's Newhouse School of Broadcasting.

One of the winningest coaches in history of women's soccer, former U.S. women's national team and current University of North Carolina women's Head Coach Anson Dorrance joins Mowins in the booth as the color analyst for WUSA games on PAX. Dorrance partnered with Mowins for Atlanta Beat regional television broadcasts in 2001 and also was the analyst for the Carolina Courage regional television package last season. Dorrance has a lengthy soccer resume that includes an eight-year reign as the U.S. women's national team head coach from 1986-1994 where his squad won the 1991 Women's World Cup. Since 1979, Dorrance has been the head coach of the University of North Carolina women's soccer program where his teams have won 17 collegiate national championships. The 2002 season marked the Tar Heels 19th trip to the NCAA final while Dorrance also notched his 500th career win and directed UNC to its 13th ACC title in a row.

In addition to calling Atlanta Beat regional television games in 2001, Mowins and Dorrance handled broadcast duties for the New York Power at Bay Area CyberRays (now San Jose) playoff match last season.

The WUSA's 2002 national television schedule will feature games live on Saturday afternoons from 4:00 - 6:00 p.m. (ET) for a total of 21 matches, providing world-class women's soccer to PAX TV's 90 million homes. The WUSA on PAX TV schedule begins April 13 and ends with Founders Cup II on August 24, featuring 20 consecutive weekends of live WUSA matches.
