Motor City Doubles up TC

December 4, 2010 - North American Hockey League (NAHL)
Traverse City North Stars News Release

TRENTON - For almost seven minutes on Saturday night, the Traverse City North Stars looked to be running away with things, fashioning a 2-0 lead over the Motor City Metal Jackets in the series finale at Kennedy Ice Arena. But the host Jackets scored the next four goals - and eight of the next 10 - to claim a weekend sweep with an 8-4 triumph.

Chris Dienes (Traverse City, MI/TC West HS) put Traverse City in front just 2:40 into the affair with his first career junior goal, and Kelin Ainsworth (Thunder Bay, ONT/TC North Stars/Lake Superior St.) put the Stars up two just over four minutes later.

Motor City (16-8-0) levied the final two goals of the first period, packed the only three goals of the second into a window of 3:42, and answered each of the two goals scored by Stars captain Travis White (Sterling Hts., MI/TC North Stars) in the final frame. The Jackets added an empty-net goal in the waning minutes to push the final margin to four.

Tim Opie (Troy, MI/TC North Stars) and Zack Dorer (Holt, MI/TC North Stars) distributed two goals each, while Alexander Taulien (Crystal Lake, IL/Lansing Capitals U18) and Michael Szmatula (Commerce Twp., MI/Lansing Capitals U18) set up Dines.

Tyler Marble (Howell, MI/TC North Stars/Lake Superior St.) and newly- acquired Zach Cisek (Canton, MI/New Mexico NAHL) split netkeeping duties for Traverse City (14-10-1), combining for 15 saves.

The North Stars will travel again next weekend, heading to McMorran Arena for a Friday-Saturday series in Port Huron, before returning to Centre ICE Arena for a Dec. 17-18 rematch with Motor City. The Saturday, Dec. 18 game will feature the second annual Holiday Teddy Toss for Big Brothers/Big Sisters and the Father Fred Foundation. Fans who bring a new, unwrapped teddy bear will get $2 off their adult ticket, throw the bear onto the ice at the appointed time during the game, and the bears will be distributed through the two charitable organizations. There is also a post-game skate with the team following Saturday's contest.
