Morris Signs on with Surf

ANAHEIM, Ca, -- The Southern California Surf of the American Basketball Association ("ABA") announced that the signing of Chris Morris. Morris, an 11-year NBA veteran, is expected to help out the Surf at the power forward position. The 6-8 Morris' experience in two NBA finals should be beneficial as the Surf prepare themselves for the ABA playoffs which are set to begin next Wednesday, April 10, in Anaheim.

Coming out of Auburn University where he was seventh all time in scoring, Morris was selected fourth overall in the 1988 NBA draft by the New Jersey Nets. In 747 career regular-season NBA contests, Morris averaged 11.0 points and 4.7 rebounds per outing. He spent the first seven seasons (1988-95) with the New Jersey Nets, three years with the Utah Jazz (1995-98), and the 1998-99 campaign with the Phoenix Suns.

As a rookie in 1988-89 with New Jersey, Morris averaged 14.1 points and 5.2 rebounds in 76 games en route to earning second team All-Rookie honors. He also competed in the 1989 NBA Slam Dunk Contest. Morris helped the Nets to three straight playoff berths (1992-94) and first post-season appearance in six seasons.
