Palm Beach Cardinals News Release

The Palm Beach Cardinals had led go of a 5-2 lead over the St. Lucie Mets on Saturday night at Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium.

But Darlin Moquete left no doubt that the Beach Birds would land with a win, their fifth in a row and seventh over St. Lucie in secession dating back to the teams' May series. The leadoff hitter in the lineup and the ninth inning, Moquete would rope a solo home run to left field to the tune of 103.9 miles per hour, sending the 1,090 fans hope happy.

The 22-year-old Dominican went 2-3 with two runs and two walks against the Mets, with the right fielder's late-game heroics setting up the Cardinals for a chance to sweep the six-game series on Sunday.

Saturday's game was delayed one hour as popup thundershowers made their way out of northern Palm Beach County.

Palm Beach opened the scoring in the second with a run by Sander Mora on a wild pitch. Trailing 2-1 an inning later, the Cardinals retook the lead on a two-run triple from Matt Chamberlain before the left fielder scored an at bat later off the bat of Leonardo Bernal.

Adanson Cruz logged a sacrifice fly in the sixth, but Palm Beach would lose their lead after surrendering pairs of runs in both the sixth and seventh innings. Starting pitcher Trent Baker worked through a four-inning no-decision, allowing two earned runs. Andrew Marrero pitched a scoreless fifth inning before handing the game over to fellow relievers Jack Ralston, Jose Mareno and Chris Holba. The latter of the three also recorded a scoreless frame before Griffin Roberts eventually claimed the win with a shutout ninth inning.

Palm Beach will look to finish the week 6-0 when they host St. Lucie for the series finale Sunday at 12:00 p.m. The Cardinals improved their overall record to 32-34 with the win, and 2-0 in the 2nd half of the Florida State League season.
