Manitoba Moose News Release
For the second night in a row the Manitoba Moose rallied for a 2-1 victory over the Grand Rapids Griffins to lead the North Division Finals 2-0. Alexandre Bolduc extended his multi-point streak to two games with a goal and an assist while Jason Krog notched his third postseason marker. Goaltender Cory Schneider stopped 28 of 29 attempts for his fifth consecutive playoff victory.
A roughing minor handed to Nolan Baumgartner put the Griffins on the man-advantage at 3:18. After clearing the puck out of their zone, the Moose pressed hard in the Griffins end. A defensive slip-up behind the net allowed Alexandre Bolduc to slap the puck between Jimmy Howard's legs to open the scoring shorthanded.
The Moose embarked on the second period with an extra attacker, thanks to Darren Haydar's unsportsmanlike conduct penalty at the tail-end of the first. Unfortunately the home team wasn't able to capitalize on the man-advantage, only firing two shots before play returned to five-on-five.
For the second time of the night, Nolan Baumgartner found himself in the sin bin, this time for interference. A mere 15 seconds into the powerplay, Darren McCarty slid the puck passed Schneider's right goal pad to knot the game at one.
Manitoba regained their lead at 10:10. Flying down the left wing, Alexandre Bolduc backhanded the puck to Jason Krog who wired it into the net, 2-1.
After charging Schneider after the whistle, Aaron Downey was handed a two-minute roughing fine along with a five-minute major for charging. An array of misdirected shots and a bouncing puck kept the Moose off the scoreboard during their second powerplay.
The Moose and Griffins swapped powerplays in the early half of the final frame, but neither team could capitalize on their respective man-advantages.
Back and fourth play consumed the remainder of the game and the Griffins weren't able to force overtime, allowing the Moose to walk away with a 2-1 victory and 2-0 series lead.
