Manitoba Moose News Release

For the first time in franchise history, the Manitoba Moose swept a series in four-games beating the Grand Rapids Griffins 3-2 on Wednesday to claim the North Division Title. Jason Krog, Guillaume Desbiens and Mark Cullen all notched goals from Manitoba while Cory Schneider stopped 30 shots in the teams seventh straight victory.

Greg Rallo's roughing penalty at 6:13 gave the Griffins the first man-advantage of the game. Despite planting themselves in the Moose zone for the full two-minutes, Grand Rapids only fired one attempt on Cory Schneider before play returned to even strength.

At 14:01 Francis Lemieux was put away for slashing, giving the Moose their first powerplay. Before the visitors could even map out an offensive play, Jakub Kindl wired the puck through the traffic and into the net for a 1-0 shorthanded lead.

The Griffins didn't enjoy their lead for long as the Moose responded at 15:48. With a sleek pass across the net from Mark Cullen, Jason Krog went top shelf on Jimmy Howard to knot the game at one.

A mere 1:19 into the second stanza, the Moose stole the lead. Guillaume Desbiens caught a pass at the right wing circle and one-timed the puck into the net for a 2-1 edge over the Griffins.

With Tom Galvin in the box for roughing, Manitoba embarked on their fourth PP opportunity. Raymond Sawada passed the bullet from behind the net to Mark Cullen who beat Howard on the right side for a 3-1 lead at 6:15.

Both clubs exchanged powerplays in the latter half of the second, but neither side could capitalize and the Moose entered the final period with a two-goal advantage.

With seven minutes to play in regulation time, Grand Rapids tightened the gap when Jamie Tardif beat Schneider for a 3-2 score.

Despite the last minute effort, the Moose held onto their one-goal lead and swept the Griffins in four-straight games.
