Monterey Bay F.C. Travels to South Carolina for Eastern Conference Fixture against Charleston Battery

MOUNT PLEASANT, South Carolina - Monterey Bay F.C. (3-3-4, 13 points) hits the road to Mount Pleasant for an early afternoon contest at 2:00 p.m. PT on Saturday, May 20 against Eastern Conference foe Charleston Battery (5-2-3, 18 points) at Patriots Point in Week 11 of the 2023 USL Championship regular season. Live streaming of the match will be available on ESPN+.

Saturday's fixture between the Crisp and Kelp and Charleston Battery will be the first-ever meeting between the two interconference opponents. With a bye weekend on the horizon for Monterey Bay, the match in South Carolina signifies a chance to right the ship with what would be the Club's first win since April 25 in U.S. Open Cup, and first since April 22 in league play. Meanwhile, although Charleston currently sits atop the Eastern Conference table, the pressure is on for the Battery to put their home result from last weekend fully in the rearview mirror as they were beaten 7-0 at home against the defending USL Championship title-winners San Antonio FC.

The match also brings the significance of another Monterey Bay F.C. first. Last season, the Union transferred Robbie Crawford to Charleston in the middle of the campaign. Now, Crawford will become the first former-Monterey Bay player to face the Club in a match. While with the Crisp and Kelp in 2022, Crawford started nine of his 11 appearances and recorded four assists in 783 minutes in league play. The midfielder also added a goal for the Union in a second round U.S. Open Cup match. Old friends aside, Monterey Bay is looking to shake off its first loss since April 1.

"This match is really important. Right after the Charleston match we have a couple of days off, and you don't want to go into those days off with a bad result," said Chuy Enríquez. "Especially after taking the L versus New Mexico. We know that we have to do better and we have been working hard this week to correct the mistakes that we made. I think we're ready. We're going to go out there, give it our all and try to get the win."
