Fresno, Calif. - MONSTERS WEEKLY is a weekly review of everything Monsters Hockey: weekend game recap, player and goalie stats, player spotlight, and upcoming events.
The Fresno Monsters kicked off the 2011-2012 season with a bang at the North American Hockey League Showcase Tournament last week, going undefeated 4-0. The Monsters will travel next week to Dawson Creek, British Columbia to take on the Dawson Creek Rage.
The Fresno Monsters home opener is Friday, October 28th at Selland Arena. Season tickets for the 2011-2012 Fresno Monsters season are on sale now through the Fresno Monsters front office.
NAHL Showcase Tournament - Blaine, MN
Wednesday, 9/14/2011 vs. Topeka Roadrunners, Monsters 4, Roadrunners 2: A late 3rd period power play goal and an empty-net goal from Jeffrey McMinimy was the difference as the Fresno Monsters edged out the Topeka Roadrunners.Jeffrey Pauluk and Brendan Bradley had the other goals for Fresno, who went 3 for 4 on the power play. Goaltender Mac Haight had 21 saves.Thursday, 9/15/2011 vs. Austin Bruins, Monsters 4, Bruins 1: Fresno continued to prove they are for real with a 4-1 win over the Austin Bruins. Jeffrey McMinimy paced the Monsters' offense for a second-straight game, while other goals came from Zack Wallace and Jeffrey Pauluk. Goaltender Tomas Sholl stopped all but one shot.
Friday, 9/16/2011 vs. Coulee Region Chill, Monsters 5, Chill 4: In a battle of unbeaten teams, the Monsters remained one of the feel-good stories of the young season by defeating the Coulee Region Chill in a thrilling game by a score of 5-4 to remain undefeated. Jeffrey Pauluk had three assists for the Monsters, but the star of the game was DJ Carnley, who recorded a hat trick for Fresno.
Saturday, 9/17/2011 vs. New Mexico Mustangs, Monsters 4, Mustangs 3: Jeffrey McMinimy was once again the star for the Monsters figuring in on all four goals including a hat trick in Fresno's 4-3 win over New Mexico, giving the Monsters a perfect 4-0 record at the Showcase.
NAHL PLAYER SPOTLIGHT
JEFFREY McMINIMY: McMinimy was on fire in his debut as a Fresno Monster, notching 2 goals and 1 assist on Wednesday against Topeka, 2 goals and 1 assist on Thursday against Austin, 1 assist on Friday against Coulee Region, and a hat trick (3 goals) and 1 assist on Saturday against New Mexico. At the NAHL Showcase, McMinimy logged 7 goals and 4 assists for 11 points in 4 games. In his efforts, Jeffrey was named the NAHL's First Star of the Week.
JEFFREY PAULUK: Pauluk had points in 3 games at the NAHL Showcase, scoring 1 goal and 1 assist on Wednesday against Topeka, 1 goal and 1 assist on Thursday against Austin, and 3 assists on Friday against Coulee Region. Pauluk is second on the team in scoring with 2 goals and 5 assists for 7 points in 4 games.
D.J. CARNLEY: Carnley notched the first hat trick of the Fresno Monsters' season, scoring 3 goals on Saturday against the Coulee Region Chill at the NAHL Showcase. The Monsters went on the win the game by a final score of 5-4.
