Quad City Mallards News Release

MOLINE, Ill. (July 17, 2014) - The Quad City Mallards today announced they have re-signed defenseman Mike Monfredo.

Monfredo, 24, last season scored eight goals and added 25 assists- tenth most among Central Hockey League defensemen- to total 33 points. The 6' 3", 210-pound Shirley, New York, native also led the Mallards with 114 penalty minutes last year.

"Mike has been a really important player for us the last couple of seasons and we are counting on him to do that again this season," said Mallards coach and general manager Terry Ruskowski. "He's developed into a guy we can depend on to be a shutdown defenseman and get the job done against other teams' top forwards. He can play a physical game and also help us out in the offensive zone."

Monfredo, who has played in each of the Mallards' 132 regular season games over his first two professional campaigns, scored four goals, notched 19 points and finished fifth among CHL rookies in plus/minus rating (+11) in 2012-13.

Monfredo spent the 2011-12 season at the State University of New York-Fredonia, where he scored three goals and added five assists in 26 games. He played three seasons of junior hockey for Motor City in the North American League before heading to Fredonia. In 2010-11, Monfredo led the NAHL with 259 penalty minutes.

2014-15 Mallards season tickets are now on sale. Ticket packages are available to meet almost any budget. A limited edition season ticket holder Mallard jersey, 12 additional ticket vouchers per seat and free parking are among a host of exclusive benefits available to season ticket holders.
