Atletico Ottawa News Release
Atlético Ottawa returned to TD Place on Saturday as they faced Pacific FC in the first of two home matches against the West coasters. If moms were celebrated all around the stadium, Pacific FC were not in a giving mood, stealing the three points in a very animated but heartbreaking 1-0 loss for Ottawa.
KEY MOMENTS
Ottawa started off on the front foot, taking on the role of the aggressor, and finished the match with determination. As a group, they created a number of chances, and one of their highest shots tally in 2022.
Through the 90 minutes, Atlético Ottawa orchestrated 23 shots, 17 from inside the box and 11 of which were on target (and a good proportion of those off the foot of Ballou Tabla). Unfortunately for Ottawa, Pacific FC's goalkeeper Callum Irving had a solid night, keeping Ottawa from converting those scoring opportunities.
It was the first match since the season opener that Head Coach Carlos González had his full roster to select from.
Drew Beckie returned following a 3-match suspension, and made the start at the centre of the back-line, wearing the captain's armband.
It also marked the first match for Carl Haworth this season. After fighting a bit of a nagging injury through preseason, he jumped on the field in the 63' minute for his first appearance of the year.
Both Diego Espejo and Miguel Acosta were available for selection despite leaving the last match at York injured; while Espejo was left off the lineup this time around, Acosta dressed and came in as a substitute, also in the 63' minute.
Ottawa's Head Coach Carlos González will miss the team's next Canadian Premier League matches as he serves a suspension after having been sent off by the official.
He will get to lead his squad for Tuesday's Canadian Championship match against York.
A total of 3,555 entertained fans attended the match on a sunny Saturday afternoon at TD Place.
POST-MATCH MEDIA AVAILABILITY
A recording of the post-match media availability with Atlético Ottawa Assistant Coach Kwesi Loney, and player Ballou Tabla, as well as coach and player from Pacific FC, can be downloaded (for editorial purposes).
