July 30, 2015 - Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League (PGCBL)
Amsterdam Mohawks News Release
Macy Holdsworth (Indiana) hustled around to score the winning run as Gage West (Florida State) beat out an infield single with two outs to give the Amsterdam Mohawks a 4-3 win in ten innings Thursday night at Shuttleworth Park. With the win, the Mohawks improved to 40-10 and have now won 40 or more games in back-to-back seasons.
Holdsworth and West led the Mohawks after both went 2-for-5 at the plate. The duo scored two runs combined.
Saugerties, already eliminated from playoff contention, came to play and scored the game's first run in the top of the fourth. Pat Dorrian (Herkimer) reached on an error and came around to score on John Giakis' (Fairleigh Dickinson) RBI double.
Amsterdam answered in the bottom half when Brendan Tracy (Fairfield) doubled to right. Tracy then attempted to steal third and the throw sailed into left field and was misplayed by the Stallions' left fielder, enabling Tracy to trot home.
Saugerties broke the tie again an inning later. In the fifth, Jesse Uttendorfer (NJIT) drove in Charlie Fina (SUNY Ulster) and Dalton Dahley (Pikeville) with a double to put the Stallions up 3-1. The Mohawks finally responded in the bottom of the ninth. With two outs, the Mohawks drew four consecutive walks that allowed West and Kyle Dean (BYU) to score.
In the tenth, Holdsworth singled and stole second. With two outs, West hit a ground ball to third. The throw forced the first baseman's foot off the bag and Holdsworth continued on home to beat the throw.
The win on the mound went to Amsterdam's Tyler Smith (Canisius) who improved to 4-1 after going two innings in relief. Smith allowed just one hit and struck out four. The loss went to Phil Zdanowski (St. Rose) who dropped to 1-5.
The Mohawks will have a day off Friday before hosting Game One of the PGCBL East Divisional Series against either Mohawk Valley or Albany on Saturday. The Stallions season concluded with Thursday night's game. On the year, Saugerties finished 14-35.
