Mohawks Advance to PGCBL Championship

August 8, 2011 - Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League (PGCBL)
Amsterdam Mohawks News Release

Coming off of a thrilling come from behind last inning 5-4 win over Glens Falls on Sunday in the Eastern Division Finals to sweep the series 2-0, The Amsterdam Mohawks open play in the Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League Championship series Tuesday against the Newark Pilots . Game 1 is slated to be played in Newark Tuesday while Games 2 and 3 would be played back at Shuttleworth Park in Amsterdam on Wednesday and Thursday. The Mohawks have won their last 14 playoff games and are looking for a third straight playoff champinship. They are currently 32-17 and ranked 22nd in the PG Crosschecker National Poll. They will have the deck stacked somewhat however, as after enduring many season ending injuries over the past few weeks, the Mohawks have also lost second baseman DeMarcus Henderson (Mississippi State) and catcher Cody Ortman (Auburn) who also needed to leave the team this week. With the losses, the Mohawks currently have only 8 position players on their roster.

The Mohawks will have their pitching lined up, however, as arguably their top two starters will possibly be on the mound for the first two games of the series. Mark Leiter Jr (NJIT) will get the nod in Game 1 and either Brett Houseal (Marist) or Nick Polsinelli (St Rose) will get the ball in Games 2 and 3.

Tuesday Game 1 Amsterdam at Newark 7:05

Wednesday Game 2 Newark at Amsterdam 7:05

Thursday Game 3 (if nec) Newark at Amsterdam (7:05)
