Amsterdam Mohawks News Release
The two time defending New York Collegiate League Champion Amsterdam Mohawks have announced the signing of two additional players for the 2011 season. The Mohawks, members of the newly formed Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League, will be looking for a third championship in a row, as they captured the New York Collegiate League crown the past two seasons.
Cory Turner, a right fielder at Radford University, and third baseman Caleb Bryson from powerhouse Middle Georgia Junior College, will suit up for the Mohawks in the summer of 2011. The two players will add a great deal of offense to an already talented group of players already signed by the Mohawks. Mohawks General Manager Bill Terlecky commented on the two. "These two players will without question help the 2011 Mohawks feature an explosive offense. These are two very talented players who are experiencing a great deal of success playing college baseball already."
Turner, a native of Manassas, VA is a sophomore at Radford. He currently hits third in the Radford batting order and has been hitting over .400 all season long for the Highlanders. The 5'11 185 pound Turner is described as an aggressive left handed hitter who plays the game hard.
Bryson, a native of Thomasville, GA, is Middle Georgia's cleanup hitter and is currently hitting .370 with 8 homeruns on the season. Caleb had originally signed with the University of Georgia out of High School and was projected as a possible mid round draft pick in the Major League Draft. He has been described as one of the better hitters in America last year in High School. At the International Power Hitting Showcase at Tropicana Field in Tampa last year, Caleb, representing the state of Georgia, launched many homeruns including one that traveled over 500 feet.
The Mohawks open their season on Thursday June 9 against the Albany Dutchmen. They will have an opening weekend giant fireworks show after their second home game on Saturday June 11.
