Lancaster JetHawks News Release
(LANCASTER, CA) - The JetHawks defense was much improved, but the final result of the game was the same. Giving up runs in the first inning for the fifth straight game, the JetHawks fell behind 6-0 early and the Modesto bullpen held off Lancaster for a 9-5 Nuts win. Lancaster has now lost four games in a row for the first time since dropping seven in a row in the middle of July, 2006 when the team was an affiliate of the Arizona Diamondbacks.
Modesto jumped on starter Adam Mills early with an aggressive attack, swinging at pitches early in the count and preventing Mills from finding a rhythm. The first four Nuts batters reached, leading to three runs. They added two more in the second and one in the third to go out in front by six.
Lancaster had opportunities as they notched eleven hits in the game They left the bases loaded in the first inning. The JetHawks scored twice in the third and looked like they were going to get back in the game when they loaded the bases with no one out in the fourth. But Reid Engel's line drive was turned into a double play and the JetHawks came up empty.
Lars Anderson hit a solo home run to get the JetHawks to within three in the sixth inning. Richie Lentz and Blake Maxwell held the Nuts to just one run over the final five innings, but Modesto's bullpen held strong to preserve the win.
Anderson had three hits in the game, including this third home run of the season. Argenis Diaz hit three singles to extend his hit streak to three while Jon Still's two hits moved his hitting streak to five straight games. The longest current hit streak for Lancaster belongs to Jorge Jimenez, who doubled and drove in two runs and has now hit safely in six games in a row.
