 Central Hockey League

Modano, Belfour, Matvichuk and Ludwig Join Allen Americans

May 4, 2012 - Central Hockey League (CHL) News Release

GLENDALE, AZ (May 4, 2012) - The Allen Americans made a major announcement today detailing changes to the team's ownership and management. Joining the organization are former National Hockey League (NHL) players Mike Modano, Ed Belfour, Richard Matvichuk and Craig Ludwig.

Modano, Belfour and Ludwig have partnered as minority owners with current majority owner Doug Miller, owner Steve Duchesne and minority partner and team president Matt Canavan. Matvichuk joins the team in a hockey operations role and will serve as the Americans Assistant General Manager and Defensive Coach.

"This is an exciting day for the Americans organization and the Central Hockey League," said Duane Lewis, CHL Commissioner. "The resumes of the gentlemen that are joining the Americans operation speak for themselves and their experience and leadership will not only benefit the Americans, but the entire league as well."

In addition, the Americans announced that head coach and general manager Dwight Mullins and associate coach Bill McDonald will not be retained for the 2012-13 season.

"This was a tough decision but one we feel was necessary," said Miller. "I would like to thank Dwight Mullins and Bill McDonald for their hard work and efforts over the past three seasons. They were instrumental in helping launch and establish our franchise. On behalf of the Allen Americans organization, I would like to thank them and wish them the best."

Miller continued, "Looking ahead to the new season, I am excited to have such a great group of former NHLers joining our staff. They will help take us to the next level in all aspects of the organization including hockey and business operations. The group will begin immediately and one of their first tasks will be to identify and hire a coaching staff to build a championship team for the 2012-2013 season."
