MLS Statement on Real Salt Lake Stadium

Published on January 29, 2007 under Major League Soccer (MLS) News Release

NEW YORK (Monday, January 29, 2007) - Major League Soccer Commissioner Don Garber today issued the following statement regarding Salt Lake County Mayor Peter Corroon's decision that Salt Lake County would not invest in the infrastructure required to construct Real Salt Lake's proposed stadium.

"We are extremely disappointed with the Mayor's decision to not provide funding for the infrastructure surrounding Real Salt Lake's proposed stadium," stated Commissioner Garber. "As we have said many times, Real Salt Lake cannot be successful long-term without a new stadium. In that regard, Real Salt Lake is no different than any other professional sports team in America. I will meet with Real Salt Lake owner Dave Checketts to review the options in light of this decision."
