MLS Announces 2010 MLS Cup Playoff Conference Semifinal Series Schedule

NEW YORK (Sunday, Oct. 24, 2010) - Major League Soccer today announced the four Conference Semifinal series of the 2010 MLS Cup Playoffs. The Conference Semifinal series are conducted in a home-and-home, aggregate-goal, format. The lower seeded team in the Conference Semifinal will host the first game. The winners of those four series advance to single-game Conference Championships that will determine the MLS Cup Finalists.

The four series schedules are listed below.

Conference Semifinal #1 (at lower seed):

Thursday, Oct. 28: Columbus Crew at Colorado Rapids, 9 p.m. ET, ESPN2/Deportes/ESPN3.com

Saturday, Oct. 30: Real Salt Lake at FC Dallas, 5 or 5:30pm ET, FSC/ Fox Deportes

Saturday, Oct. 30: New York Red Bulls at San Jose Earthquakes, 10 p.m. ET, TeleFutura

Sunday, Oct. 31: LA Galaxy at Seattle Sounders FC, 8:00 p.m. ET, ESPN2/Deportes/ESPN3.com

Conference Semifinal #2 (at higher seed, plus OT and PKs if necessary):

Thursday, Nov. 4: San Jose Earthquakes at New York Red Bulls, 8 p.m. ET, ESPN2/Deportes/ESPN3.com

Saturday, Nov. 6: Colorado Rapids at Columbus, 4 p.m. ET, TeleFutura

Saturday, Nov. 6: FC Dallas at Real Salt Lake., 10 p.m. ET - FSC/Fox Deportes

Sunday, Nov. 7: Seattle Sounders FC at LA Galaxy, 9 p.m. ET, ESPN/Deportes/ESPN3.com

MLS CUP PLAYOFFS FORMAT

Playoff Format: Conference Semifinal series are conducted in a home-and-home, aggregate-goal format. The lower seeded team in the Conference Semifinal hosts the first game. The winners of those four series advance to single-game Conference Championships that will determine the MLS Cup Finalists.

The team that scores the most goals in the home-and-home series advances to the single elimination Conference Championship. If the teams are tied after 180 minutes in the Conference Semifinal series, a 30-minute extra time period (divided into two 15-minute periods) will be played followed by kicks from the penalty mark, if necessary. The team with the higher seed between the two Conference finalists will host the Conference Championship game.

In the case of ties after 90 minutes of regulation in the Eastern and Western Conference Championship games and MLS Cup, 30 minutes of extra time (divided into two 15-minute periods) would be played followed by kicks from the penalty mark, if necessary, to determine the winners.
