MLL Week 13 Recap

September 3, 2019 - Major League Lacrosse (MLL) News Release

Boston, MA - Both the Denver Outlaws and New York Lizards came into Week 13 as underdogs. The Outlaws were at home against the surging Boston Cannons, while the Lizards were on the road against the red hot Dallas Rattlers.

Outlaws Surge into First

The Outlaws came into Week 13 on a little bit of a skid, losing four of their last five. During that span, the Outlaws went from first place in the MLL standings all the way down to fourth at one point. Despite the recent struggles, the Outlaws had a chance to grab a share of first once again with a win over the Boston Cannons.

The Outlaws came out strong, jumping out to a 5-1 advantage after 15 minutes. The Outlaws never looked back en route to a 22-9 victory. The 13 goal margin of victory is the largest for the Outlaws since July 4th, 2018 when they beat the Cannons 25-11.

Saturday evening was the Ryan Lee show at Peter Barton Stadium. The Ontario native scored a career high eight points on five goals and three assists. Lee now has 30 goals on the season, good enough for sixth in Major League Lacrosse. Brendan Kavanagh and Zach Currier also registered hat tricks for the Outlaws.

The win gives Denver a share of first place at 8-5 along with the Chesapeake Bayhawks. The loss means the Cannons are now tied for third with the Atlanta Blaze at 7-6.

Lizards End Rattlers Winning Ways

The Lizards and Rattlers came into this weekend heading in different directions. The Lizards had lost five games in a row to eliminate them from playoff contention, while the Rattlers had won six games in a row to put them in the thick of the playoff picture.

The Lizards were playing for pride and it showed on Saturday. New York jumped on Dallas right out of the gate to a tune of six goals in the opening quarter. The game was a battle right down to the final horn with the Rattlers making it a one goal game late. The Lizards held on for their first win since July 20th.

Rob Pannell scored three goals while Dylan Molloy and Justin Reh each had two. The Lizards improve to 4-10 on the season, while the Rattlers fell to 6-8. Dallas is now 1.5 games out of a playoff spot with only two games to play.

Looking Ahead

All six teams are in action during Week 14, starting with the Chesapeake Bayhawks visiting the Cannons (LSN.) The Outlaws head to Long Island to take on the Lizards (ESPN+), and the Blaze head to Frisco to take on the Rattlers (Stadium.)
