BOSTON (July 21, 2015) - Major League Lacrosse, the premier professional outdoor lacrosse league completed Week 14 of its 2015 season this past weekend. The Boston Cannons secured a spot in the Playoffs but will not find out their seeding until after this coming week. Two other teams await their seeding structure after this week, Ohio and Rochester.
The Boston Cannons 9-8 overtime win against the Chesapeake Bayhawks on Thursday night clinched a playoff berth for the Cannons for the first time since the 2012 season. The game started off slow, as neither team scored for the first 22 minutes. Will Manny scored the first goal of the night, five minutes into the second quarter off a pass from Scott Ratliff. Ratliff had one assist, seven groundballs and held key Bayhawks player, Joe Walters, to just two points. The game went goal for goal after that, eventually heading into overtime where Max Seibald scored the game-winning goal.
The Rochester Rattlers defeated the Charlotte Hounds at home on Friday night, keeping them in the hunt for the number two seed in the Playoffs. Five players scored three or more points in the win for the Rattlers, Michael Lazore, Joel White, Kevin Rice, Kyle Denhoff and Jordan Wolf. Rochester goalkeeper, John Galloway, had 14 saves. Rookie for Charlotte, Joey Sankey, scored a hat-trick. Sankey has had points in every game of his rookie MLL career thus far.
The Ohio Machine beat the New York Lizards for the first time in team history on Saturday night, 14-9. This game marked a late-season battle between the two top-seeded teams in the MLL, but the second place team, Ohio, came out the victor. Ohio midfielder, Tom Schreiber, lead the Machine with six points on the evening (two goals, four assists). Three other Machine players had three or more points: Marcus Holman, Steele Stanwick and rookie, Jimmy Bitter (three goals, one two-point goal).
The Denver Outlaws hosted the Florida Launch on Sunday and won 20-14, making them one win away from reaching .500 on the season. Although neither team is eligible for playoff contention, this was a hard fought an exciting game in Mile High City in front of a large crowd. The Bocklet brothers put on a show, with Chris Bocklet scoring a career-high seven goals (eight points) and brother Michael tying the franchise record for points in a game with ten (five goals, five assists). Drew Snider, midfielder for Denver, also scored four goals. Both Kieran McArdle and Connor Buczek lead the Launch in scoring with four points each. After the loss for the Launch, Buczek is now the League's season leader in two-point goals, with four.
