SACRAMENTO, Calif. - Republic FC suffered their first home loss of the season as Mitchell Taintor's blazing strike from distance was undone by a resurgent Reno 1868 FC side who came back to win 4-1 on Saturday night at Papa Murphy's Park.

Taintor controlled a cleared effort from the Reno defense the fell at the center circle, stepped forward and fired a long-range shot from over 30 yards out that struck the upper corner of the net to put Republic FC ahead in the 12th minute.

The visitors responded shortly after, however, as Brent Richards dribbled to the end line before laying off a low cross into the box that Corey Hertzog finished to put things level.

Reno went ahead after Lindo Mfeka sent a low through put Brian Brown through on goal in the 31st minute. The club's leading goal-scorer didn't hesitate and fired a driven shot that made its way past Josh Cohen.

Republic FC were unable to capitalize on their chances, with one second-half effort from Tyler Blackwood striking the post and bouncing away from danger.

As the home side pushed forward in search of the equalizer, Reno found space to break through and put the match away.

Brian Brown controlled a cross in the box and laid it off to an on-rushing Raul Mendiola who fired home from the near post to make it 3-1 in the 83rd minute.

Reno added one more with two minutes left as Duke Lacroix went one-on-one against Cohen before squaring off a ball to Hertzog who simply had to tap it home.

Republic FC will have an opportunity for revenge just days later as the club takes on Reno again in the Second Round of the 2019 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup on Wednesday night. Kickoff is at 7:30 p.m. at Papa Murphy's Park.
