
Hamilton and Williams Find the Net to Secure United's Road Point

(EL PASO, Texas) New Mexico United's inaugural meeting with fellow expansion squad, El Paso Locomotive FC, ended in a 2:2 draw. With the road draw United shares the top of the table with Portland Timbers 2.
Jerome Kiesewetter netted both goals for the hosts. His shot in the 36th minute slipped through United Goalkeeper Cody Mizell's gloves to open the scoring. His brace would come in the 65th minute, via El Paso's first headed goal of 2019.
Defender Sam Hamilton scored United's first goal, in the 47th minute. Manny Padilla's crafty cross found Hamilton at the back post, and the Denver native coolly tucked away the header. Rookie Ryan Williams would equalize for United after Kiesewetter's second. His point-blank attempt, from Captain Josh Suggs' assist would be the final goal of the evening.
United and El Paso's first red cards in history were shown consecutively in the 72nd minute. Santi Moar, and El Paso's Yuma were ejected from the game after a confrontation following a hard tackle.
United's next match is versus Phoenix Rising FC in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup. It will take place on Wednesday, 05/15 in Phoenix.

While Ryan Williams' equalizer was crucial, and he earned the fans' vote for the Starr Brother's Brewing Company Starr of the Match, Sam Hamilton's goal, and overall play was crucial for the United point. In addition to his heroic first-half, stoppage time header, Hamilton completed almost 88% of his passes and provided 2 huge clearances.
