HUNTERSVILLE, NC - The Southern Professional Hockey League (SPHL) today announced Devin Mantha of the Mississippi RiverKings is the Bauer Player of the Week for March 6-12.
Mantha etched his name into the SPHL record book last Saturday night by scoring five goals and seven points (5g, 2a) in a 9-2 win over the Roanoke Rail Yard Dawgs.
Mantha became the fifth player in SPHL history to record five goals in a single game, joining Steve Roberts, Rob Sich, Chris Wilson and Matt Gingera, who most recently accomplished the feat for Columbus against the Mississippi Surge on February 28, 2014. The Ann Arbor, MI native scored twice in the first period and three times in the third period, including two shorthanded goals, which also tied an SPHL record.
With two assists to go along with his five goals, Mantha joined SPHL all-time leading scorer Kevin Swider as the only players to record seven points in a game. Swider initially set the record with a seven-assist night against Huntsville on March 26, 2010.
Mantha, who has played 25 games in the ECHL with Fort Wayne this season, currently has 27 points in 22 games with the RiverKings. Mantha, the son of former NHL player Moe Mantha, played his college hockey at two schools, skating for Miami (Ohio) University from 2009 to 2011 and the University of Wis- consin Eau Claire from 2011 to 2013.
