Mississippi Surge News Release

The Mississippi Surge have today named Evangeline Leventhal as new team President.

Leventhal is charged with leading the day-to-day operations of the club and developing the Surge's front office staff, particularly in the areas of ticket sales and corporate partnership fulfillment. She replaces incumbent president, Katy Waugh. "We are continuing to take steps to strengthen the team's footprint in the Gulf Coast community," owner Tim Kerr stated. "Evangeline brings a great deal of experience having successfully worked with numerous sports teams, particularly in non-traditional markets."

Leventhal spent 10 years with the Orlando Magic, during which time her sales team was recognized as the best in the National Basketball Association (NBA) and set many best practices in ticket sales, customer service excellence, and team culture. She was also responsible for establishing several key corporate sponsorship relationships as the team transitioned to the new state-of-the-art Amway Center in 2010.

Prior to her stint with the Magic, Leventhal held leadership roles with the Birmingham Bulls of the East Coast Hockey League (ECHL), the Madison Monsters in the United Hockey League (UHL), and also with the Birmingham Steeldogs and Columbus Wardogs, both of arenafootballf2 (af2). She returned to Pensacola last summer to help successfully launch the Pensacola Blue Wahoos (AA-Affiliate of MLB's Cincinnati Reds) as VP of Sales.

"I am thrilled for the opportunity to play a significant role with the hockey team here on the Gulf Coast," Leventhal commented. I consider it a personal mission to help develop a first-class hockey experience to a new range of fans, and assist in bringing back former Sea Wolves fans and those who haven't been to a Surge game in awhile."

Leventhal, born in Montreal, Quebec, received a Bachelor of Arts degree in International Studies and a Master of Business Administration degree on the Gulf Coast from the University of West Florida (UWF) in Pensacola, FL.

"She not only has a passion for hockey, but also is skilled in developing creative partnerships for companies looking to benefit from association with the team. She will lead our sales team's efforts to help fill the arena for home games and we are excited about her addition to our staff," said Kerr.

The Surge will begin its fourth season of play in the SPHL on Saturday October 27th at home against the Pensacola Ice Flyers. Once again, this season, the Surge will have 28 home games at the Mississippi Coast Coliseum. Season tickets for the 2012-13 Surge season are on sale now. The team is also holding a jersey sale, with several jerseys, including game worn jerseys, available at bargain prices. For more information call 228-594-3800 or log onto www.mssurge.com .
