Ottawa Renegades News Release
OTTAWA - The Ottawa Renegades Football Club had one of the most successful ticket sale days in franchise history Saturday as a result of the team's $99 season ticket pass promotion. Nearly 6,000 season ticket passes were sold throughout the capital and Outaouais regions on June 25 - more than doubling the previous number of season ticket holders (approximately 5,000) and easily shattering the original sales goal by over 40 per cent.
Just over 5,800 (a figure of at least 5,836 was declared, with confirmed, exact Internet numbers still to be processed) season ticket passes were sold Saturday between three different movie theatres (two in Ottawa, one in Gatineau) and online through Capital Tickets (http://www.capitaltickets.ca). The successful day-long event comes as the team counts down to its home opener on July 1 when the Renegades host the Montreal Alouettes (6 p.m., Frank Clair Stadium.)
While there is no such category in the record books, the Renegades feel it is safe to announce that the event sold the most season tickets in Canadian Football League history for a 12-hour period.
"Today was an unbelievable success for our organization," said Renegades president Lonie Glieberman, ecstatic as the numbers continued to soar past what he felt would be a "best-case scenario" of moving 4,000 season ticket passes. "This sale will help make the stadium a fun, exciting place to be - which was one of our mandates since taking over the team just a few weeks ago. We thank the people of Ottawa and Gatineau for making a commitment to this football team, and we are really looking forward to our special Canada Day game, the rest of the 2005 season and beyond."
In all, 2,305 season ticket passes were sold at the SilverCity theatre in Gloucester - the most popular location of the day. The Famous Players Coliseum moved 2,119 passes, while 750 (as of 5 p.m. Eastern time) were processed on the Internet. Some 662 were sold in Gatineau at the StarCité movie theatre, which Glieberman pointed out to be "very encouraging" since the third location in Quebec was added less than a week prior to the sale.
Fans lined up long before the 9 a.m. opening at each of the theatres. Quickly and efficiently, orders were processed in-person by a slick moving system that offered bilingual service. Seats in several north and south side sections were available. Complete sell-outs of sections GG, OO and JJ were attained by the mid-way point of the day.
"We wanted today to have a real positive momentum builder heading into our home opener, and we accomplished that beyond what we could have even imagined," said Glieberman. "As our new management group continues to move forward and work toward success in Ottawa, today could not have been better as a start to invigorate a solid fan base."
