Steamers Notes - A 6-3 home loss to Kansas City on Friday dropped the Steamers into a tie for first place with the Philadelphia KiXX... The defeat was only the third at home for the Steamers in 2004-05... A season-high crowd of 8,998 attended the game at the Savvis Center... Leading scorer Daryl Doran is tied for 3rd in the league with 27P and second with 15A... F Mike Apple is tied for the league lead with 18G... GK Brett Phillips ranks second in the MISL in both GAA (4.08) and SV% (.740)... The Steamers' game scheduled for 1/22 in Philadelphia was postponed due to inclement weather, so St. Louis will play three games in three days this weekend: on 1/28 in Chicago and on 1/29 and 1/30 in Philadelphia... The Steamers' road record (5-3, .625) is the best in the MISL.
NOTABLE:
- The game between the Philadelphia KiXX and St. Louis Steamers originally scheduled for 1/22 was postponed due to inclement weather and will now be played on 1/30 at 5:05 p.m.
- Philadelphia GK Peter Pappas became the 15th player in indoor soccer history to record 4,000 career saves in his team's 9-4 win at Baltimore on Friday.
- Last week, the KiXX unveiled a new interactive website, www.kixxinteractive.com, featuring desktops, screensavers, the team's television commercial, a video highlight package, and more.
- The St. Louis Steamers announced on 1/20 the signings of M Mariano Bollella and F Marco "Chikis" Lopez, both All-Stars in 2003-04. That same day, the Steamers also announced that the club had acquired the rights to F Lindsay Kennedy, a former standout at the University of Kansas and Harris-Stowe State College.
- The reality television show featuring the Steamers, called "Red Card," will debut on KPLR-TV WB-11 in St. Louis on 2/12.
- The Cleveland Force bolstered its roster on 1/25 with the signings of D's Matt Johnson and Genoni Martinez and F Tamas Weicz. Martinez, 29, is a two-time Defender of the Year.
- On 1/21, the Chicago Storm announced that the club had acquired F Nino DaSilva from the St. Louis Steamers in exchange for cash and a fourth-round draft pick. The trade returns the 25-year-old DaSilva, who has scored 136 goals and 345 points in his first 153 indoor games, to his hometown. DaSilva will wear jersey number 77 with the Storm in honor of his father Batata (Nilton DaSilva), who wore the same number with the Chicago Sting of the original MISL and Chicago Power of the NPSL. Nino DaSilva is the first second-generation player in indoor soccer history.
- Milwaukee Wave players Todd and Troy Dusosky, Marcelo Fontana, and Michael King joined several other Wisconsin professional athletes (including Packers Pro Bowlers Ahman Green and William Henderson) in raising a total donation of $25,830 for the Tsunami Relief Fund on 1/21.
