St. Louis Steamers at Baltimore Blast
1st Mariner Arena, 7:35 p.m. ET Steamers goalkeeper Brett Phillips and midfielder Craig Scheer (named the League's Defensive Player of the Week on Monday) will return to Baltimore after earning Championship rings with the Blast last season. Baltimore will head to Milwaukee following the game for a Saturday night engagement against the Wave.

Monterrey Fury at Kansas City Comets
Kemper Arena, 7:35 p.m. CT The Fury continues its early season road tour on Saturday at Kemper Arena as Monterrey and Kansas City meet for the first time in League history.
Baltimore Blast at Milwaukee Wave
U.S. Cellular Arena, 7:00 p.m. CT In the most compelling game of the young season, these two teams will meet for the first time since the Blast captured the 2002-03 MISL Championship with a 13-12 win in front of 12,598 fans at the Bradley Center last April 18. This contest will mark Baltimore's second game in as many days.

Cleveland Force at Dallas Sidekicks
Reunion Arena, 6:05 p.m. CT The Force opens its 2003-04 season at Reunion Arena. Hector Marinaro moves to defense, while Ato Leone and Nick Corneli make their Cleveland debuts. The Sidekicks will try to bounce back from an 8-6 loss to Monterrey on Sunday, October 5.

San Diego: Mark Ughy (two goals); Mariano Bollella (assist); Gaston Pernia (goal) Notes: San Diego defender Gaston Pernia scored an own goal (credited to Milwaukee's Michael King) with eight seconds left in regulation as the Wave defeated San Diego and former teammate Victor Nogueira (11 saves). Nogueira shut out his former team for the first 30 minutes before Chris Morman got the Wave on the board 57 seconds into the third. Sockers forward Mark Ughy registered his second straight two-goal game.

Notes: The Blast raised its 2002-03 Championship Banner to the rafters then dropped its 2003-04 season opener, falling 5-3 to the Philadelphia KiXX in front of 8,522 fans at 1st Mariner Arena on Saturday. Billy Nelson, Tarik Walker, and David Bascome scored Baltimore's goals; Walker added an assist. Scott Hileman saved nine of 14 shots in the loss. Bascome and Chris Handsor (assist) both recorded their first Blast points. Baltimore hosts the St. Louis Steamers at home on Friday, then travels to Milwaukee to face the Wave in a rematch of last season's Finals on Saturday.

Notes: The Force opens its 2003-04 season this Sunday, October 19, with a game in Dallas against the Sidekicks. Hector Marinaro, the game's all-time leading scorer, makes the switch to defense, the position he first played when he began his indoor soccer career. Marinaro will be reunited with Zoran Karic, perhaps the best playmaker in the history of indoor soccer, who returned to Cleveland last season after Marinaro had been injured. MISL All-Stars Ato Leone and Nick Corneli will also make their Force debuts this Sunday. Following the game in Dallas, Cleveland will travel to San Diego (October 24, 7:00 p.m. PT) and Milwaukee (October 31, 7:00 p.m. CT). Five of the Force's first six games are on the road, where the team went 6-12 last season.

Miodrag Djerisilo and Jamar Beasley scored two points apiece (goal, assist), and DJ Horvath saved 14 of 20 shots in goal. Reigning MISL SPALDING Scoring Champion Dino Delevski was held to one assist. The renewal of the Comets-Steamers rivalry generated 33 total minutes in penalties (25 on St. Louis). Head coach Zoran Savic is still in search of his 200th career regular season victory; his next chance comes this Saturday, October 11, when the Monterrey Fury visit Kemper Arena. Following this weekend, the Comets play seven of their next eight games on the road.

Greg Howes, Chris Morman, and Giuliano Oliviero also scored; Oliviero added an assist. Nick Vorberg saved six of nine shots in goal against his former team. This Saturday, October 18, the Baltimore Blast visits U.S. Cellular Arena for the most compelling game of the young MISL season: the Blast defeated Milwaukee 13-12 last April 18 to capture the 2002-03 MISL Championship.

Notes: St. Louis made an auspicious MISL debut on Saturday in Kansas City, riding two-goal performances from Steve Butcher and Jeff DiMaria to a 7-4 win over the Comets at Kemper Arena. Butcher was named the League's Offensive Player of the Week, and midfielder Craig Scheer earned Defensive Player of the Week honors after scoring a goal and blocking four shots in the game. Brett Phillips saved 12 of 16 shots in goal for the win. The Steamers head to Baltimore for their only game of this week, facing the Blast at 1st Mariner Arena on Friday at 7:35 p.m. Eastern. St. Louis then opens a five-game homestand by hosting the Comets at Family Arena in St. Charles on Saturday, October 25.

Notes: San Diego dropped to 0-2 on Saturday night when Milwaukee scored the game-winnning goal with just eight seconds left in regulation, earning a 4-3 victory at San Diego Sports Arena. The Wave's Michael King received credit for the goal, which was deflected into the net by Sockers' defender Gaston Pernia. Goalkeeper Victor Nogueira took the loss in his first game against his former team, saving 11 of 15 shots. Nogueira shut out the Wave in the first half. Forward Mark Ughy continued his torrid early-season play with two goals, giving him four in two games. Ughy has accounted for four of San Diego's five goals this season. The Sockers have this week off, and return to action on Friday, October 24, when the Cleveland Force comes to town.
LEAGUE NOTES
- Road teams have won five of the first six games of the 2003-04 MISL season. Dallas is the only club with a home victory thus far.
- The League will hold its annual All-Star Weekend February 27-29 in St. Louis, MO. The Family Arena in St. Charles will be the site of the Midseason Classic, to be played on February 29.
- Kansas City Comets Head Coach Zoran Savic needs only one more win to become the second man in League history to accumulate 200 regular season coaching victories. Savic, entering his 10th season as Kansas City's head coach, ranks second on the League's all-time win list behind Keith Tozer (428), who was Savic's predecessor with the Kansas City franchise.
- Comets forward Jamar Beasley scored his first MISL point with a first-quarter goal on Saturday at Kemper Arena. The goal came on his 24th birthday, with his brother DaMarcus (the starting left winger for the U.S. National Team) in attendance.
- MISL clubs drew a total of 19,285 fans to three games over the weekend, an average of 6,428 per game. For the season, the League is averaging 5,853 fans per contest.
