
MISL Regular Season Honors Announced

TAMPA, Fla. -Division Finalists Baltimore and Missouri enjoyed a clean sweep as the Major Indoor Soccer League announced its 2011-12 regular season honors. Comets forward Geison took home two of the four categories, earning the title of Scoring Champion and Goal Scoring Champion after tallying 90 total points and hitting the net 37 times in 24 games. Geison, the MISL's January Offensive Player of the Month, bested Mauricio Salles of the Rochester Lancers by nine points for the scoring title, and Salles was second best in goal scoring as well with 30 total goals.
Baltimore Blast midfielder Max Ferdinand captured the Assist Champion crown, setting up his teammates 25 times in 24 games to help the Blast capture the Eastern Division crown at 18-6. Ferdinand, the 2009-10 MISL Rookie of the Year, finished fourth in scoring with 72 points and captured the assists title with a five-assist game against Wichita in the Blast's penultimate game of the season.
Rounding out the regular season standouts is Baltimore goalkeeper Sagu, who captured the Points-Against Average Champion honors by allowing an average of 9.61 points in 20 games. The Goalkeeper of the Year two of the past three seasons and a two-time MISL Goalkeeper of the Month this season, Sagu finished ahead of Milwaukee's Nick Vorberg, who finished second with a 10.36 points-against average.
Ferdinand and Sagu will lead the Blast into the Eastern Division Finals this Saturday when they host the Rochester Lancers in Game 1 at 1st Mariner Arena (7:35 p.m. ET, MISL Live). Game 2 is set for Monday, March 12 at Blue Cross Arena (7 p.m. ET, MISL Live).
Geison and the Comets face the defending-champion Milwaukee Wave in the Central Division Finals, with Game 1 set for Friday at the Independence Events Center (8:35 ET, MISL Live). Game 2 is set for 4 p.m. ET Sunday at U.S. Cellular Arena in Milwaukee (MISL Live).
The 2011-12 MISL Award Winners, including MVP, Rookie of the Year, Coach of the Year, Defender of the Year, Goalkeeper of the Year, the All-Rookie Team and All-MISL Teams will be announced prior to the 2011-12 MISL Championship.
