Lancers Aim to Make More Playoff History

Rochester, NY - When the Rochester Lancers face the Baltimore Blast in the MISL's Eastern Division Finals playoff series, they will be trying to duplicate the success that the outdoor Rochester Lancers had in their inaugural NASL season in 1970.
The Lancers were the NASL's Northern Division regular season champions in 1970 and they faced the Southern Division champion Washington Darts in a two-game aggregate championship series. The Lancers would dominate both legs of the series winning the NASL title 6-1 on aggregate.
It would be seven years before the Lancers other historic playoff series. In 1977, the Lancers would face Pele and the NY Cosmos in a two-game aggregate series with a berth in the Soccer Bowl on the line. The opening game of the series would draw a Lancers franchise record crowd of 20,005 fans to Holleder Stadium. The Cosmos would prevail 2-1 after the Lancers took the early lead on a Mike Stojanovic goal. The second leg saw 73,669 fans pile into Giants Stadium as the Cosmos took the second leg by a 4-1 score with Ibraim Silva scoring the lone Lancers goal on the day in what would be the final playoff game in the outdoor Lancers history.
The Lancers will face the Baltimore Blast in the MISL Eastern Division Finals. The first game of the series will be in Baltimore at 7:35pm on Saturday, March 10th. The Lancers will host the second leg at 7pm on Monday, March 12th. If the series is even at 1-1 after the two games, a 15-minute mini-game will be played at the conclusion of Game 2 in Rochester.
Individual game tickets are still available and start at $10 for adults, and children age 12 and under receive free entry for every regular season home game.
