MISL November Players of the Month Named
December 5, 2012 - Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL) News Release
TAMPA, Fla. - The Major Indoor Soccer League announced its Players of the Month for November on Wednesday, with the Baltimore Blast's Mike Lookingland being named Defensive Player of the Month, his Blast teammate William Vanzela being named Goalkeeper of the Month, and the Missouri Comets' Byron Alvarez being named the Offensive Player of the Month.
Selections were based on individual performances in games played through November 30, with nominations being received throughout the month from each team in the MISL.
Lookingland claimed Defensive Player of the Month honors after leading the Blast to a perfect 7-0 record during the month. The 2012 MISL Defender of the Year played a standout role both in attack and defense, recording 13 points and 13 blocked shots as he and fellow nominee Patrick Healey allowed the Blast to finish the month with the best goals-against average in the league.
Vanzela also played a role in the Blast's success, going 3-0 with a 5.33 goals-against average for the month. Entering his first season in the MISL, Vanzela conceded only eight goals in three appearances, including none from 3-point range, to edge out his battery-mate Troy Hernandez for the monthly honor.
Alvarez led the MISL with 24 points in the month of November, helping the Comets get out to a 4-2 start to the season. Alvarez recorded a goal in each of the Comets' games in November, including a five-point performance in their overtime victory against the Milwaukee Wave on November 11 that saw him record the game-winning assist in the extra session.
The 2012-13 MISL season continues on Friday night as the Chicago Soul host their home opener against the Rochester Lancers at the Sears Centre at 8:30 p.m. ET. Also on Friday night, the Wichita Wings open a weekend trip to the Northeast as they visit the Baltimore Blast at 7:35 p.m. ET at 1st Mariner Arena, and then move on to meet the Syracuse Silver Knights on Saturday at 7 p.m. ET at The Oncenter. The Lancers are also in action again on Saturday, visiting the Milwaukee Wave at U.S. Cellular Arena at 4 p.m. ET, before the weekend concludes with the Missouri Comets hosting the Chicago Soul on Sunday afternoon at 4:10 p.m. ET.
