MISL GOALKEEPER OF THE WEEK

Sagu, Baltimore Blast

Sagu had earned two Player of the Week honors already this year, further solidifying his status as one of the Major Indoor Soccer League's (MISL) top goalkeepers. However in pulling off the improbable sweep of the first place Philadelphia KiXX alongside his Blast teammates, Sagu earned his third goalkeeping honor of the year, in this, his fifth MISL season and second with Baltimore. The 33-year-old native of Sao Paulo, Brazil, yielded a total of just nine goals, assisting in two huge victories in a home-and-home series that helped thrust Baltimore (9-9) back into the thick of the regular season title chase. Beginning with a 19-12 home win at 1st Mariner Arena before 5,071 fans, Machel Millwood posted a hat trick and Sagu was credited with five saves. Next on Saturday before a crowd of 7,874 at the Wachovia Spectrum in Philadelphia, Sagu turned back nine shots on goal in the Blast's 16-8 triumph over their Atlantic Coast rivals. A statistical leader in a number of categories for MISL goalkeepers last season when he won 15 games for the eventual MISL Champions, Sagu is presently 7-6, with a 73.3 percent save percentage that ranks second in the MISL, as well as a 10.74 points against average, which ranks third, under the MISL's multi-point goal scoring system.

MISL DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

And while he's taken on a more defensive role for the Baltimore Blast this year, Tschantret made history this past weekend on behalf of his longtime of offensive clout when he became the 14th player in League history to reach the 1,000-point milestone for his career. The New York City native, assisted on a Matt Watson goal at the 29 second mark of the third quarter to give Baltimore a 12-9 edge in the Blast's 19-12 victory over the MISL-leading KiXX at 1st Mariner Arena on Friday night. The next night, before 7,874 at the Wachovia Spectrum, Tschantret scored the game-winner, on a penalty kick, and added an assist in a 19-12 Blast victory that helped the club improve to 9-9. Throughout the weekend, Tschantret helped key a solid defensive effort against the KiXX, one that wasn't seen in the first meeting of the season series in January.
