GOALKEEPER OF THE WEEK
Sanaldo, Kansas City Comets
Sanaldo went 2-0 over the weekend, allowing just eight goals in two overtime games. The 27-year-old played a total of 128 minutes in consecutive days and saved his best effort for the second outing, saving 16 of 18 shots in a 3-2 win in Philadelphia on Saturday. He also saved 10 shots in Friday's 7-6 victory over Baltimore. The native of Feiras de Santana, Brazil, has now won three straight starts, posting a 3.50 goals against average and .784 save percentage over that stretch. A member of the 2003-04 MISL All-Rookie Team, Sanaldo is now 10-10 with a 5.76 goals against average this season. He shared Goalkeeper of the Week honors with Milwaukee's Nick Vorberg on February 21.
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Casey Barton, Kansas City Comets
Casey Barton continued a quiet but solid season with three points (all assists) and three blocks in Kansas City's wins last week. In Friday's win over Baltimore, the 26-year-old blocked a pair of shots and recorded the assist on Dino Delevski's game-winner at 7:07 of overtime. And on Saturday, Barton recorded a block and set up Delevski for another important goal, this one to tie the game at 9:03 of the fourth. For the season, Barton, a native of Wichita, Kan., is tied for second in the league with 51 blocks. This is the first weekly award of the season for the 6-2, 195-pound defender.
OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Adauto Neto, Cleveland Force
With five points (four goals, assist) in two wins over the weekend, Adauto Neto helped lead the Cleveland Force into second place in the MISL's standings to start the week. The explosive forward scored twice in both of Cleveland's victories, a 7-2 win over Chicago on Friday (which officially clinched a playoff berth for the team) and an 8-7 triumph over Milwaukee on Sunday (he also added an assist). His second score on Friday served as the game-winner. The 24-year-old Neto, who scored 22 goals en route to an All-Rookie selection in 2003-04, has scored 10 points (eight goals, two assists) over his last five games, and has now registered 29 points (18 goals, 11 assists) in 23 contests this season. This is his first Offensive Player of the Week honor of 2004-05.
