MISL names players of the week
January 24, 2005 - Major Indoor Soccer League 2 (MISL 2) News Release
GOALKEEPER OF THE WEEK
Jim Larkin, Cleveland Force
Jim Larkin recorded a season-high 24 saves on 27 shots (.889 save percentage), surrendering only three goals in 62:27, in Cleveland's thrilling 4-3 overtime win in Milwaukee on Saturday. He also played the final seven minutes of Cleveland's 8-4 loss in Chicago on Friday. The 29-year-old currently ranks third in the MISL in both minutes played (798) and saves (203) and is fourth with a .738 save percentage. Three-time All-Star was also named Goalkeeper of the Week on November 29.
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Tijani Ayegbusi, Chicago Storm
Tijani Ayegbusi was a key performer for a Storm defensive unit that allowed only seven goals in wins over Cleveland (8-4 on Friday) and Milwaukee (7-3 on Sunday) this past weekend. Thanks in large part to Ayegbusi's efforts, Chicago stifled the opposition and permitted a total of 27 shots in the two games. On Sunday, he found time to get involved offensively as well, with a pair of assists. The former member of the Nigerian Under-23 National Team becomes the second Storm player honored as Defensive Player of the Week this season.
OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
James Koehler, Kansas City Comets
James Koehler was involved in all but one of his team's goals in a 6-3 win over the St. Louis Steamers on Friday, finishing with three goals and two assists for five points. The 33-year-old rookie (who has played professionally in Brazil and Spain) scored the Comets' second, third, and sixth goals in recording his first MISL hat trick. He also assisted on the team's fourth and fifth and tallies, the former of which proved to be the game-winner. Koehler, who is riding a five-game scoring streak, has now registered 10 goals and 15 points in 13 games this season. He becomes the fifth different Comet honored as Offensive Player of the Week in 2004-05.
