
MISL names players of the week

GOALKEEPER OF THE WEEK
Jim Larkin, Cleveland Force
Larkin saved 33 of 40 shots (.825 save percentage) in a pair of games over the weekend for the Force, earning his second Goalkeeper of the Week award this season. The 28-year-old was outstanding as Cleveland defeated St. Louis 6-2 at Family Arena on Saturday, March 6, turning away 26 of 28 shots (13 saves in both halves). He followed up with 17 saves on 21 shots (including 12 saves after halftime) in Cleveland's 5-4 overtime loss in Monterrey on Sunday. Larkin is now fifth in the League with a 5.06 goals against average, and third with a .743 save percentage. The Toronto native, who saved 10 of 12 shots in the first half of the 2004 MISL All-Star Game on February 29, was also named Goalkeeper of the Week on December 8.
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Leo Pernia, Dallas Sidekicks
Pernia wins his first weekly award of the season after blocking three shots and scoring four points (goal, three assists) in Dallas' 10-3 win over Monterrey on Friday, March 5. One of his three helpers came on the game-winning goal, from Sinisa Alebic at 14:17 of the first. The 28-year-old, who made his All-Star debut on February 29 in St. Louis, has now scored 12 points (seven goals, five assists) and blocked 20 shots in 19 games this season. He joins Nick Stavrou (October 27) and Kiley Couch (December 8) as Sidekicks players to earn Defensive Player of the Week honors this season.
OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Greg Howes, Milwaukee Wave
The most potent scorer in the MISL continued a scorching hot streak with eight goals and nine points in two games over the weekend, both Wave victories. Howes, 26, scored four goals in both contests, giving him three straight four-goal games, and added an assist on Sunday in St. Louis. He also recorded his League-leading sixth game-winning goal on Sunday against the Steamers. The native of Tacoma, WA, now leads the League in scoring with 70 points, 16 more than his closest competitor (Baltimore's Carlos Farias), and is also tops in the MISL with 47 goals (12 more than Kansas City's Dino Delevski, who ranks second). His 23 assists place him fourth in the League. Howes, who appeared in his second straight All-Star Game on February 29, was also named the MISL's Offensive Player of the Week on November 3 and December 8, and earned Offensive Player of the Month honors for December and February.
