MISL grants formal approval of expansion plans for Chicago

May 25, 2004 - Major Indoor Soccer League 2 (MISL 2) News Release


(Westport, Conn., May 25, 2004) – The Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL) announced today that the League's Management Committee has granted unanimous approval of plans for an MISL expansion team to play in Chicago, according to MISL Commissioner Steve Ryan.

The Chicago team, operating as the Chicago Indoor Soccer Club, LLC, will commence competition beginning in the 2004-05 MISL season. Further details relating to the Chicago team, including team name, team colors and logo, team management, Head Coach, and home venue, will be announced at a press conference scheduled for June 3, 2004, at the Greek Islands Restaurant in Chicago.

The Major Indoor Soccer League is a single-entity organization featuring a coast-to-coast presence with eight teams located across the United States and a ninth team in Monterrey, Mexico. On February 27, the League announced an expansion team in Stockton, CA, set to begin play in 2005-06. On May 4, the League announced plans for an expansion team in Newark, NJ, that will begin play in 2007-08. The MISL is the premier major league of indoor soccer, which played a 162-regular season game schedule that concluded on April 5. The 2003-04 MISL Championship Series concluded on May 1, when the Baltimore Blast won its second consecutive MISL Championship.
