MISL anounces final details for 2005-06 season

September 21, 2005 - Major Indoor Soccer League 2 (MISL 2) News Release

WESTPORT, Conn. (Wednesday, September 21, 2005) - Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL) Commissioner Steve Ryan announced today that the League's Management Committee has finalized details for the 2005-06 season.

Based upon the long-standing commitment and many years of service by Kansas City Comets Investor/Operator Don Kincaid, and following careful and comprehensive deliberations, the Management Committee has granted Mr. Kincaid and the Comets an exception to League policy, and has unanimously accepted the club's request for inactive status for two seasons with the understanding that Mr. Kincaid has signed a Letter of Intent to return the Comets to active status in the MISL for the 2007-08 season. The Comets return is planned to coincide with the completion of construction of a new arena planned for the Kansas City marketplace. Mr. Kincaid will remain an active partner within the League, continuing to serve as Chair of the MISL Finance Committee.

Additionally, Commissioner Ryan announced today that the Management Committee has placed the Cleveland Force on inactive status for the upcoming season. The League continues to work actively with potential investor/operators to return the MISL to Cleveland for the 2006-07 MISL season.

Last March, Cleveland Force Investor/Operator Dick Dietrich announced his intention to sell his majority ownership in North Coast Professional Sports, Ltd., the operating group of the Cleveland Force. Mr. Dietrich began his involvement with the Cleveland Force as part of the ownership group that took over on December 10, 1999 when he purchased the Cleveland Crunch. Mr. Dietrich has served the League in many capacities, including Chair of the Competition Committee in 2001-02, and Chair of the MISL Management Committee from November of 2002 through March of 2005.

Having solidified its alignment for the 2005-06 season, the League also announced on Wednesday its regular-season game schedule. Each MISL team will play a 30-game (15 home/15 away) regular-season schedule. The majority of the League's 2005-06 regular season line-up will be played on weekends, with 90 percent of games scheduled for a Friday, Saturday or a Sunday. The 2005-06 MISL regular season will run for 22 weeks, beginning on November 6 and concluding on April 9, with no games scheduled for the Christmas holiday weekend. To date, clubs have released selected home dates in advance of the season, which begins in November.

"These were difficult decisions for the Management Committee," Ryan said. "Professional indoor soccer has long enjoyed widespread success and fan support in both Kansas City and Cleveland. However, in the judgment of the Management Committee, and after examining all of the options, including the careful consideration of selling and relocating our Kansas City and Cleveland clubs to interested parties in advance of our 2005-06 season with limited lead time, these were appropriate decisions that had to be made.

"The Management Committee is unified in its belief that the MISL is strong at its core and is poised for rapid growth, as is evidenced by last season's addition of the Chicago Storm, this season's debut of the California Cougars, our up-and-running Detroit expansion club for the 2006-07 season, and the MISL Newark Club (under NHL New Jersey Devils ownership) for the 2007-08 season. In addition, there are several other cities with accompanying ownership interests presently under review by the MISL."

As per League Policy, the MISL will hold a Dispersal Draft on Thursday, September 22, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. (EDT) via teleconference for the allocation of players formerly belonging to the Kansas City Comets and the Cleveland Force. Results from the Dispersal Draft will be available shortly after its completion.
