
MISL All-Rookie Team announced

(Westport, Conn., April 29, 2004) â The Major Indoor Soccer League announced its All-Rookie Team on Thursday. Kansas City Comets forward Jamar Beasley received 36 of a possible 40 votes from a panel that included team executives and media members representing each of the MISL's nine host cities. Joining Beasley on the All-Rookie Team are Kansas City goalkeeper Sanaldo, Cleveland forward Adauto Neto and defender Adam Guren, Dallas forward Shaun David, and Philadelphia defender Jeremy Aldrich.
Each voter was asked to choose one goalkeeper, two defenders, and three forward/midfielders for the MISL All-Rookie Team. Voting followed the conclusion of the League's 162-game regular season, and preceded the MISL Championship Series. To qualify as a rookie, a player must not have played in a World Cup final round and played fewer than 10 regular season North American professional indoor soccer games, excluding games played in the former Eastern Indoor Soccer League (EISL), prior to the 2003-04 MISL Season.
In his first season in the MISL, Beasley emerged as one of the most feared attackers in the League. Playing in all 36 games for Kansas City, Beasley tied for seventh in the MISL in goals (31) and finished in an 11th place tie for total points (46). The 24-year-old, Fort Wayne, Ind. native, was second on the Comets in shots, goals, and points.
Neto received a vote on 29 ballots after completing his first season as a forward for the Cleveland Force. The Itabuna, Brazil native totaled 22 goals and nine assists, despite missing 11 of Cleveland's 36 games due to injury. Neto, 23, tied for second on the Force in goals (22), placed second on the team in game-winning goals (3), and led all MISL rookies in points-per-game average (1.24).
David, who received a vote on 25 ballots, joins Beasley and Neto to complete the forward/midfielders portion of the MISL All-Rookie Team. David, 22, totaled 26 points in 32 games for the Western Division Champion Dallas Sidekicks. The Oakland, Calif. native, finished third among MISL rookies in goals (15), and tied for third on the Sidekicks in game-winning goals (2).
Aldrich received a vote on 23 ballots following his first season as a Philadelphia defender. Aldrich, 27, totaled 10 points (five goals, five assists) as a regular for the KiXX. The Kalamazoo, Mich. native added 15 blocks for Philadelphia, which ranked third in the MISL in defense (5.1 goals against average).
Guren received 12 votes to join Aldrich as a defender on the MISL All-Rookie Team. Guren, 22, was Cleveland's Territorial Round selection in the 2002-03 MISL Amateur Draft. The native of Kirtland Hills, Ohio played in all 36 games for the Force and totaled three assists and 24 blocks.
Sanaldo received 26 votes and earned MISL All-Rookie Team honors as a goalkeeper. The native of Feiras De Santana, Brazil, was a mid-season signing for Kansas City, making his first start on Feb. 21. Sanaldo, 26, finished with a 6-2 record, a 5.76 goals against average, and a save percentage of .724. Forty-five players were eligible for the 2003-04 MISL All-Rookie Team. Twenty- three players received at least one vote.
The best-of-five MISL Championship Series Finals continues this weekend in Baltimore, Md. The Baltimore Blast currently leads the Milwaukee Wave by a 2-0 margin. Game Three is scheduled for Saturday at 7:35 p.m. ET at 1st Mariner Arena in Baltimore.

The Major Indoor Soccer League is a single-entity organization featuring a coast-to-coast presence with eight teams located across the United States and a ninth team in Monterrey, Mexico. On February 27, the League announced an expansion team in Stockton, CA, set to begin play in 2005-06. The MISL is the single major league of indoor soccer, playing a 162-regular season game schedule that concluded on April 5, 2004.
