Fort Myers Mighty Mussels News Release
FORT MYERS -- The Fort Myers Miracle came up empty with the bases loaded in the fourth and with the tying runs on base in the ninth as the team dropped its third straight by a score of 3-1 to the Sarasota Reds at Hammond Stadium.
Joe Benson was 2-for-3 to notch the only multi-hit game for the hosts, while Jair Fernandez had the only RBI on a run-scoring double in the seventh. After Justin Reed dropped what would have been an inning- ending fly ball, Fernandez doubled over the third base bag for the team's only run of the day.
Curtis Partch (1-1) collected his first victory at the Advanced-A level with a strong performance. The righty gave up just one unearned run on five hits in his seven innings. He walked one and struck out six.
Meanwhile, Tyler Robertson (6-8) pitched well enough to win in his six innings. He gave up two earned runs on four hits with two walks and four strikeouts.
Sarasota had runs batted in from Alex Buchholz, Jordan Wideman, and Jason Louwsma, who went 2-for-3.
For the second straight night, the Miracle offense lacked punch after rain delays pushed the start time back by an hour. Friday's game was also briefly delayed with a brief rain shower in the top of the ninth. The team managed seven hits but left seven on base.
Sarasota will meet the Miracle for the last time in 2009 at Hammond Stadium on Saturday night at 7:05 p.m.
