Minnesota United FC's Christian Ramirez Earns NASL Player Of The Week For Week 6

August 18, 2014 - North American Soccer League (NASL) News Release

NEW YORK (August 18, 2014) - Forward Christian Ramirez continues his electrifying performance in his rookie year at the North American Soccer League (NASL) after increasing his lead atop of the NASL Golden Boot race with 12 goals after notching a pair while adding an assist in the victory for Minnesota United FC over Indy Eleven this past weekend. His performance in Week 6 once again earned him the NASL Player of the Week honors for the third time this year.

"First off I want to thank God for this award," said Ramirez on his third NASL Player of the Week in 2014. "Also, I want to share this with my teammates because sometimes so much of the guys' work goes unnoticed, but their play sets me up in good positions to be successful. As a team, we felt we put together one of our better and more complete games this weekend."

With United leading 1-0 in the first half over Indy Eleven on Saturday at NSC Stadium, Ramirez made in 2-0 in the 37th minute off a pass from defender Justin Davis in which the Minnesota striker finished with a bicycle kick from 16 yards that found the left corner of the net.

Just before halftime, Ramirez flicked a pass off teammate Davis' free kick to find Minnesota midfielder Daniel Mendes who scored for a 3-0 advantage.

After United made it 4-0 in 53rd minute of second half, Ramirez closed out United scoring five minutes later when he dipped a shot over Indy's goalkeeper Kristian Nicht that landed perfectly in the far back corner of the net.

Despite a late tally from Indy Eleven, league-leader United held on for 5-1 victory and extended their unbeaten streak to 10 consecutive games.

United coach Manny Lagos added on Ramirez's award: "It was a great team performance and within that, Christian really stepped up and individually had some world-class goals. Christian has been a great player on the field all season and his work ethic in training has really proven to be a big part of his on-field success. He comes to train everyday with an attitude that is contagious for the rest of the team."

The Santa Ana, Calif. native is having a stellar rookie year in the NASL finding the net with great regularity in leading The Loons to the Spring Championship. Goal scoring is nothing new to Ramirez who earned the Golden Boot Award at the nationals during his time with the Olympic Development Program (ODP).

Ramirez, who signed with Minnesota during 2014 NASL off season, finished his college career at Concordia University in Irvine with 44 goals and 18 assists. He spent 2013 with the Charlotte Eagles of USL PRO where he appeared in 26 matches, while tallying 12 goals.
