SAINT PAUL, Minn. - Minnesota Swarm team captain Andrew Suitor, the reigning 2012 NLL Transition Player of the Year, will miss the remainder of the 2013 season with an ACL injury. Suitor sustained the knee injury during the Swarm's 13-8 road victory against Edmonton on Feb. 22.

"I'm going to be the number one cheerleader for the rest of the season, and this doesn't change what our team is, or our goal of winning the Champions Cup," Suitor said.

In five games this season, Suitor recorded five points (4g, 1a) and 34 loose balls. The Orangeville, Ontario native was coming off a career season in 2012, where he was named the NLL Transition Player of the Year, and collected All-Pro First Team and All-Star starter honors.

At the young age of 23, Suitor was the league's youngest captain in 2013.

Swarm head coach Joe Sullivan released the following statement today in regards to Suitor's injury: "When you get a special person like Andrew Suitor on your team, you realize not just how great of a player he is, but also what a great person he is, and the positive dynamic he brings both on and off the floor.

"The fans get to see him run through three guys and score a highlight goal, but what they don't get to see is how this young man leads a team. His ability to lead people through tough times is second to none, and I fully expect him to recover completely given his never quit personality. He's going to be terribly missed. In fact, he's not replaceable. It's going to take more than one person to fill his shoes and we're going to need guys to step up.

"The positive light on the whole thing is that it will give other people an opportunity to show us what they have. I'm confident that we can have those people in our mix. That will be the challenge for our team."

Suitor is expected to undergo knee surgery in St. Paul later this week.

"I hope to come back a totally different player and in better shape for next season," Suitor said in regards to his recovery.
